Forensic Nurse Examiner, PRN
The Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) provides comprehensive care to sexual assault patients under limited supervision. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting a medical forensic assault history and physical examination
- Collecting, preserving, and documenting evidence
- Ensuring crisis intervention and medical treatment in the Emergency Department
- Coordinating reporting to appropriate police jurisdiction and/or Child Protective Services
- Interfacing with patient advocacy, law enforcement, and crime labs
- Providing referrals to community agencies and follow-up referrals for health care
- Participating in legal proceedings, including courtroom testimony
- Providing care using therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/technology, and other healthcare team members

Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Forensic Nurse Examiner Program Coordinator.
Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited nursing education program or equivalent, current RN FNE-A (Adolescents/Adults only) or RN FNE-A/P (Adolescents/Adults & Pediatrics) license in Maryland, or ability to obtain within one year.
Working Conditions: Works in a clean, well-lighted environment, may be exposed to frequent interruptions and crisis situations, and may be physically or verbally abused by patients. Rotating shifts including weekends and holidays may be required.
Physical Requirements: Standing, sitting, bending, and walking up to 5 hours per shift. Heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 100 lbs. up to 3 hours per shift. Reaching, fingering, grasping, and handling equipment/supplies up to 3 hours per shift. Hearing and listening for differentiation up to 3 hours per shift. Visual acuity necessary for reading labels, charts, documents, and using various instruments up to 3 hours per shift.
