Foreman - Transmission

Position Summary

The Foreman is a safety-focused professional responsible for leading a crew to construct and repair electrical transmission systems. This role involves working on energized and de-energized powerlines and may require travel to different job sites, including out-of-state locations.

About the Role

Reports to the General Foreman, this position requires a combination of technical skills and leadership abilities. The Foreman is expected to lead the crew, conduct safety briefings, train lower classification employees, and ensure the quality and timely completion of projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on energized and de-energized transmission systems while prioritizing safety.
• Lead pre-job and tailgate safety briefings and coach/train lower classification employees in safe work procedures.
• Oversee work related to each project, assuming full responsibility for its quality and completion deadlines.
• Install and repair overhead transmission lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
• Knowledgeable in switching and tagging procedures, EPZ-grounding, and induced voltage on de-energized lines using appropriate tools and test equipment.
• Climb different structures (wood, steel, concrete) using approved climbing methods and equipment.
• Work at heights and in proximity to energized equipment, willing and capable of obtaining knowledge in bare hand work up to 44kV and 500kV.
• Operate and maintain bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioners, pullers, and other transmission line equipment.
• Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
• Available to work outages, storms, emergencies, including on-call rotations.
• Follow all safety protocols including PPE use and possess a comprehensive understanding of insulated protective gear to isolate differences of potential on energized lines.

Requirements

• Five (5) years of recent transmission line experience.
• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• Willingness to travel long distances on short notice.
• Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Work for extended periods at different job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
• Willing to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.

Physical Demands

While performing the responsibilities of this job, you will be required to talk, listen, and use hand signals to communicate. The job frequently requires standing, walking, using hands and fingers to handle objects, operating tools or controls, reaching with hands and arms. Work environments may include exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. Noise levels in the work environment and job sites can be loud. You will perform job responsibilities in extreme heat, cold, wet, windy, and storm conditions. Work may involve working at heights and in proximity to energized equipment.
