Foreman/Superintendent (Utilities)

About the Role

A Superintendent/Foreman manages daily site activities to ensure the project is constructed safely, on design, within budget, and on schedule. This role directly manages lead personnel and staff on each project site.

Responsibilities

• Daily communication with General Superintendents regarding job-specific needs, including workforce and equipment requirements.
• Daily contact with job site crews to ensure project timelines and workforce needs are met.
• Schedule subcontractors to complete work as needed and monitor their work to ensure compliance with agreements.
• Maintain a safe working environment by identifying workplace hazards and taking corrective action.
• Ensure employees have up-to-date information on safety procedures and policies.
• Conduct daily Job Hazard Awareness meetings, daily stretching, and weekly Tool Box topics.
• Complete daily record-keeping, including logs, equipment and material schedules, and time cards.
• Manage field personnel fairly and equitably in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
• Address staff performance issues as they occur.
• Participate in pre-construction meetings to discuss project start-up and planning.
• Prepare for and participate in regular job site meetings throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide timely and accurate documentation for safety issues, equipment damage, and workplace injuries.
• Ensure all work follows specified quality standards and inspect field work for compliance.
• Review manufacturer’s literature and drawings before work begins.
• Respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
• Participate in training for construction methods and safety, and support training opportunities for staff.
• Keep supervisors informed of actions that may affect project success or company operations.

Requirements

• Two to five years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• OSHA 10-hour (preferred), OSHA 30-hour, HAZWOPER certificate, Excavating Safety Training, Blueprint Training, CPR, and First Aid.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, reports, plans, specifications, and legal documents.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, iPad, and iPhone.
• Strong communication skills (oral and written) for interacting with all levels of management, employees, external vendors, and business associates.
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to speak effectively before groups and individuals.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and handle abstract and concrete variables.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test and be over the age of 18.
• Union affiliation or willingness to join the union is required.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.

Schedule

Position requires 8 to 10-hour workdays and occasional weekends, as needed.
