About the Role
This hourly, non-exempt position supervises craft employees assigned to PennDOT projects under the direction of a supervisor. The role involves working with direct and indirect supervision.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Project Superintendent to develop and maintain a thorough understanding of project plans and specifications.
- Collaborate with the Project Superintendent to create a plan that meets or exceeds specifications, safety requirements, and production goals.
- Supervise assigned crew members to ensure tasks are completed safely, productively, and with high quality.
- Prioritize, schedule, and communicate plans and tasks to crew members, customers, and inspecting agencies.
- Plan work schedules, determining manpower levels, material quantities, trucking, equipment requirements, and traffic control needs.
- Monitor crew performance and productivity to ensure adherence to project rules, procedures, and safety requirements.
- Complete daily quantity reports with diary notes and accurate employee time reports.
- Advise superintendents or project management of potential problems, work interferences, or schedule difficulties; assist in resolving such issues.
- Maintain positive relationships with other departments to support the construction schedule.
- Promote positive public relations and image.
- Ensure a safe working environment and exercise proper care, maintenance, and operation of company equipment.
- Frequently work more than 40 hours per week, including night shifts, Saturdays, and occasionally Sundays.
- Perform additional assignments as directed by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record per company standards.
- Basic math skills.
- Must successfully complete PennDOT Flagger Training Course.
- CPR and first aid trained.
- Must obtain and maintain all mandatory training.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of construction experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
