Foreman - Grade

FLSA Status: Non‑exempt. Hours: 7‑5 p.m.; Saturdays may be required. Job Location: As directed.

General Overview

Foremen work on different types of construction projects. The Grade Foreman will lead crews of Grade Checkers. Their work requires various skills and experience. Our foremen consistently perform as construction professionals by delivering quality work, being prompt, following all safety policies and procedures, and positively communicating to work safely, skillfully, and productively to help build work per plan. Our foremen consistently demonstrate Integrity, Gratitude, Excellence, and Leadership.

Responsibilities

• Communicates with team about job expectations.
• Assists in planning the work, including providing back‑up plans for unexpected changes.
• Pre‑plans and organizes schedule for work on jobsite.
• Is technically proficient in required software.
• Handles confrontation and de‑escalates any potential problems that arise on a jobsite.
• Works outside in all types of conditions.
• Communicates production goals and safety hazards effectively to field personnel.
• Reports all safety and equipment incidents in accordance with Company policy to the appropriate 24‑Hour Incident or 24‑Hour Shop Lines.
• Possesses job skills as required by specific specialty.
• Recognizes how construction work impacts stormwater and soil erosion and works to reduce impact on the environment.
• Supports the Superintendent in managing and overseeing field operations.
• Monitors and tracks production, construction methods, materials; brings discrepancies or concerns to the attention of the Superintendent or Project Managers.
• Participates in short‑ and long‑term planning, including development of detailed two‑ to six‑week look‑ahead schedules in coordination with the Superintendent and Project Managers.
• Assists in forecasting project needs.
• Ensures all work is performed in compliance with project scope, plans, specifications, and quality standards.
• Acts as a company job site representative when the Superintendent is unavailable.
• Provides leadership, mentorship, and feedback to Foremen, Leads, and Key Tradespeople.
• Supports the Superintendent through participation in daily, weekly, and monthly progress meetings and coordination activities.
• Prepares, reviews, and submits all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
• Promotes a positive and productive work environment built on teamwork, accountability, and respect.
• Represents the Company in a manner consistent with its mission, vision, and values.
• Knows and adheres to all company policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned (list is non‑exhaustive; responsibilities may vary based on operational needs and supervisor instructions).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge and understanding of grade and elevation; ability to read and interpret construction drawings and blueprints.
• Capability to check grade and operate GPS equipment.
• Self‑motivated with ability to keep the crew productive throughout the day.
• Ability to mentor others, demonstrating high levels of ownership and personal responsibility.
• Maintains a positive attitude and works safely and effectively in all weather conditions.
• Physically capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; performing repetitive tasks such as shoveling, digging, and raking.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, and climb in and out of equipment or trenches for extended periods.
• Maintains balance and coordination on uneven or slippery surfaces.
• Comfortable working around loud noises and heavy machinery.
• Follows verbal and written instructions and communicates effectively with team members.
• Physically able to handle long shifts, early start times, and extended periods of physical labor.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must maintain a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets the Company’s eligibility requirements.
• Successful completion of a pre‑employment drug screening (Company is a BWC Drug‑Free Workplace and tests for marijuana).
• OSHA 30‑Hour Training Course completion.
• Standard First Aid/CPR certifications.
• Ability to use electronic devices with basic computer skills.
