Assists in supervising sport functions for grades 7 through 12 and works closely with other staff and the district administration.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and maintain current first aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
  • Provide supervision and quality instruction to staff and participants.
  • Enforce rules and regulations, establish fair rules, communicate them, and ensure compliance.
  • Remind athletes of the inherent dangers of the sport.
  • Match competitors based on skill, experience, maturity, height/weight, age, and gender.
  • Develop and implement a safe environment by ensuring proper equipment and facility conditions.
  • Provide a plan for handling foreseen and unforeseen injuries.
  • Serve as a role model of character, conduct, and good sportsmanship.
  • Familiarize with and enforce school, district, department, and K.S.H.S.A.A. rules of eligibility.
  • Assist in requiring athletes to have a physical examination and maintain scholastic eligibility before participation.
  • Ensure all required signatures are received before participation is allowed.
  • Supervise athletic facilities and secure areas when in use.
  • Organize teaching situations during practice, pre-contest, halftime, and post-contest time frames.
  • Implement and observe a program of injury prevention and complete all related paperwork.
  • Attend and be prompt to all practices and meetings.
  • Ride the team bus to and from contests with athletes.
  • Demonstrate effective reinforcement, whole-part-whole teaching, mental toughness development, drill work, myth building, and situational coaching during practices.
  • Assist in retrieving returned debt list items.
  • Make recommendations on facilities and equipment needs.
  • Motivate and direct athletes by maintaining a positive approach in all situations.
  • Demonstrate support for the entire athletic program and programs established by the Turner Recreation Commission.
  • Attend the Booster Club-sponsored sports banquet/reception.
  • Establish and communicate team rules to athletes and parents, and maintain discipline consistent with those rules.
  • Address grievances and work to increase morale, proper behavior, and cooperation.
  • Display leadership of the highest quality to exemplify the importance of school attendance, school rules, and responsible behavior.
  • Promote the athletic program to ensure maximum participation, positive publicity, and good relations with the media.
  • Maintain positive rapport with athletes, parents, and media.
  • Demonstrate loyalty to the athletic program and commit time, effort, thought, and energy to its success.
  • Keep the Athletic Director informed and follow the proper chain of command.
  • Attend clinics and seminars for self-improvement and stay current on new techniques and methods.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the sport and skills being taught.
  • Hold membership in professional organizations.
  • Dress appropriately for all activities.
  • Resolve conflicts within the program.
  • Implement and follow all school district policies during activities.
  • Observe and follow all district health and safety policies, including precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the nature of the position as requested by the Athletic Director, Head Varsity Coach, and/or Head Junior High Coach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university or meet Rule 10 requirements.
  • Current Kansas State Teaching Certificate on file in the Central Office or meet Rule 10 requirements.
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office (after employment offer is made).
  • At least three years of coaching experience at the secondary level.

Skills

  • Ability to work occasionally in noisy and crowded environments with numerous interruptions.
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to work various and numerous hours.

Pay

According to negotiated agreement.
