About the role

The incumbent will be responsible for directing, or assisting to direct, a competitive sport program and meeting the Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) requirements for the program. The coach is both a mentor and positive role model for all students with which they interact.

Responsibilities

  • Direct or assist in directing a competitive sport program
  • Meet UHSAA requirements for the program
  • Serve as a mentor and positive role model for all students
  • Build a positive working relationship with students, school staff, administration, parents, and the community
  • Develop young athletes while building a strong, positive, and competitive team culture that includes good sportsmanship and excellence in the classroom
  • Mentor, train, and educate athletes in the sport and the necessary skills and techniques related to the game
  • Foster excellence and a winning culture both on and off the court or field
  • Train and educate student athletes in safety and injury prevention
  • Continue a program with strong traditions and work with an involved community

Qualifications

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to build a positive working relationship with students, school staff, administration, parents, and the community
  • Skill in developing young athletes while building a strong, positive, and competitive team culture that includes good sportsmanship and excellence in the classroom
  • Ability to mentor, train, and educate athletes in the sport and the necessary skills and techniques related to the game
  • Ability to foster excellence and a winning culture both on and off the court or field
  • Ability to train and educate student athletes in safety and injury prevention
  • Knowledge of UHSAA requirements and regulations
  • Ability to continue a program with strong traditions and the skills necessary to work with an involved community

Minimum Requirements

  • Cleared background check through Granite School District
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Requires completing multiple trainings and maintaining multiple certifications, including anti-bullying/hazing training, concussion training, and First Aid/CPR certification (specific requirements may vary depending on the position)
  • Coaches have significant unsupervised access to students and are required to clear a background check prior to serving as a coach (Granite School District will cover the cost of this background check)

  • Compensation: Stipend Only
