About the role
The incumbent will be responsible for directing, or assisting to direct, a competitive sport program and meeting the Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) requirements for the program. The coach is both a mentor and positive role model for all students with which they interact.
Responsibilities
- Direct or assist in directing a competitive sport program
- Meet UHSAA requirements for the program
- Serve as a mentor and positive role model for all students
- Build a positive working relationship with students, school staff, administration, parents, and the community
- Develop young athletes while building a strong, positive, and competitive team culture that includes good sportsmanship and excellence in the classroom
- Mentor, train, and educate athletes in the sport and the necessary skills and techniques related to the game
- Foster excellence and a winning culture both on and off the court or field
- Train and educate student athletes in safety and injury prevention
- Continue a program with strong traditions and work with an involved community
Qualifications
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to build a positive working relationship with students, school staff, administration, parents, and the community
- Skill in developing young athletes while building a strong, positive, and competitive team culture that includes good sportsmanship and excellence in the classroom
- Ability to mentor, train, and educate athletes in the sport and the necessary skills and techniques related to the game
- Ability to foster excellence and a winning culture both on and off the court or field
- Ability to train and educate student athletes in safety and injury prevention
- Knowledge of UHSAA requirements and regulations
- Ability to continue a program with strong traditions and the skills necessary to work with an involved community
Minimum Requirements
- Cleared background check through Granite School District
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Requires completing multiple trainings and maintaining multiple certifications, including anti-bullying/hazing training, concussion training, and First Aid/CPR certification (specific requirements may vary depending on the position)
- Coaches have significant unsupervised access to students and are required to clear a background check prior to serving as a coach (Granite School District will cover the cost of this background check)
