About the role
This is a temporary role of 4 months with the possibility of continued employment at a different LifeMoves Interim housing site.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, serve, and store food
- Develop menus, order, inspect, and stock food and supplies
- Maintain the kitchen and other dining areas in a clean and sanitary condition
- Deliver food and supplies
- Serve food at several shelter sites
- Cross train with food service operations and assist with other operational functions as needed
- Ensure food is always kept safe by following food safety sanitation guidelines
- Manage and maintain the kitchen and dining areas
- Participate in menu planning to support the dietary intake and special meal accommodations of clients
- Implement composting practices within the organization to minimize food waste
- Drive a truck or van to deliver food and supplies; may maintain basic records related to vehicle use such as gas/mileage and service reports
- Create a healthy environment by serving clients during meal service to develop a better relationship with food
- Coordinate and source food from local food banks, donors including corporations, restaurants, and faith-based groups
- Source items from the local food bank to prep, cook and distribute across all sites
- Encourage clients to make use of programs like CalFresh, SNAP, WIC to access food
- Assure the proper care and maintenance of vehicle
- Contribute to the food service team by cross training for all positions
- Attend and participate in training and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities
- Participate in general staff meetings, 1:1’s and other meetings and events planned by the Food Services Manager
Qualifications
- Two years of experience in an institutional or commercial kitchen, which has included the preparation and serving of food, and the cleaning of kitchen equipment and facilities
- High School diploma or GED
- Food Handler Certification or ServSafe Manager Certification
- Proficient Computer skills and overall "tech-savviness."
- Professional experience in food service or nutrition related field
- Current driver's license and proof of liability insurance
- Pass background check
- Excellent customer service skills
- Experience as an effective team player
- Ability to lift 30 pounds safely and keep up with the physical demands of the job
