Food Service Worker 1
Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center is seeking friendly and hardworking people to support veterans in their daily lives. As a Food Service Worker 1 with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, you will create a welcoming dining environment while keeping operations running efficiently. Every shift contributes to smooth meal preparation and delivery for our American heroes.
About the role
This position supports daily meal preparation, food service, and sanitation work within the veterans home. The role helps ensure safe and efficient dining operations for residents.
Responsibilities
- Meal Preparation: Use kitchen equipment to prepare and portion food items
- Diet Support: Interpret diet information and assemble trays to meet resident needs
- Tray Delivery: Transport and deliver meal trays and refill dining items as needed
- Sanitation Tasks: Clean equipment, dining areas, floors, and walls to maintain safety
- Record Keeping: Document food use, temperatures, and meal counts on required forms
- Holiday Assistance: Help prepare food or decorations for special events
Schedule
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work hours are 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM with a 30-minute lunch
- Rotating days and weekends
- No telework option available
Requirements
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Willingness to work in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania
- Willingness to work full-time from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM with rotating days and weekends
Preferred Qualifications
- Food service experience in an assisted living facility, nursing home, hospital, restaurant, or other food service operation
- Work experience interacting with patients, residents, or customers while serving food or cleaning in patient/resident rooms or in a dining room setting
- Work experience with food safety and sanitation in a dietary department
Legal Requirements
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination
- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act
- Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance
