The Food Service Supervisor role at the Department of Human Services offers the opportunity to lead a busy food service team, support quality nutrition, and maintain smooth daily operations at Selinsgrove Center. This position involves supervising staff, overseeing meal production, and ensuring sanitation while working closely with dietetic professionals in a team that values safety, cooperation, and reliable service.
About the role
This position focuses on supervising food service staff, directing meal production, and maintaining sanitation throughout all food service areas. You will help ensure residents receive safe, timely, and well-prepared meals through organized teamwork.
Responsibilities
- Staff Leadership: Prepare work schedules, direct daily assignments, and train employees according to department policies.
- Meal Coordination: Plan and oversee the preparation, cooking, and distribution of food for all diet types.
- Sanitation Oversight: Inspect work areas, monitor cleaning procedures, and ensure proper use of cleaning supplies.
- Trayline Management: Assign employees to tray assembly tasks and monitor food temperatures and delivery times.
- Inventory Control: Requisition supplies, track deliveries, and maintain accurate inventory records for food and materials.
- Record Keeping: Process required paperwork, update communication boards, and prepare reports related to food service operations.
Schedule
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week.
- Work hours are 2nd shift (11:30 AM to 8:00 PM), with a 30-minute lunch.
- Rotating schedule with every third weekend off.
- Overtime: As needed.
- Telework: Not available for this position.
Qualifications
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
- Three years of paid experience in food production and/or service and successful completion of a Certified Dietary Manager course; or
- Two years as a Food Service Worker (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) and/or production experience, and an Associate degree with major course work in food production and food service; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which consists of experience in an institutional setting preparing specialized therapeutic diets, or course work in food production, food service or a related field.
Other Requirements
- Must meet the PA residency requirement.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.

- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act. Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
