About the Role

Under general supervision, the Food Service Operator prepares and serves foods and meals, performs related cleaning duties, and adheres to state and federal regulations. Work is reviewed through general inspection and observation of results.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision, and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One.
  • Interacts, communicates, and collaborates effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive, and productive working and learning environment.
  • Operates general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all employee and student information.
  • Prepares parts of breakfast and/or lunch meals in proper quantities, following approved recipes or package directions.
  • Handles, stores, and disposes of leftover foods properly.
  • Serves food using proper portion control utensils and sets up serving lines with required food, drink, and other components.
  • Maintains proper food temperatures throughout preparation, service, and storage.
  • Maintains sanitary conditions in assigned work areas, including washing pots, pans, dishes, and kitchen equipment.
  • Operates food service appliances and equipment such as ovens, stoves, mixers, dishwashers, disposals, deep fryers, and meat slicers.
  • Operates cash registers as assigned and reports major repair needs to the supervisor.
  • Follows district, state, and USDA federal rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Uses personal computing devices and software applications for information management and communication.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Prior food service experience is preferred.
  • Current government-issued identification.
  • Ability to access reliable transportation.
  • Personal computer experience, including word processing, email, spreadsheets, and electronic file management.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely in both oral and written communication.
  • Ability to organize and implement a flexible work schedule to meet reporting deadlines.
  • Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually or with a group.
  • Ability to submit reports and documentation in a timely manner.

Physical Demands

  • Performs manual work requiring physical strength and agility, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Pushes/pulls items such as furniture or boxes of materials.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, listen, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision.
  • Occasionally works irregular or extended hours.
  • Frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment.

Work Environment

  • Noise level varies from quiet to loud depending on the activity.
  • Works long hours while standing, with routine exposure to cold and heat.
  • Performs repetitive tasks such as food preparation, service, and cleaning duties.
  • Requires constant attention and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Possible exposure to biohazard risks, including oral secretions and blood.
  • Must wear a district-approved uniform, non-slip shoes, and a suitable hair restraint.

Pay

6 Hours/183 Days Support Staff Salary Scale (Grade 6). The terms of employment are based on full-time employment during the school year and may be adjusted for part-time employees or those hired for less than an entire school year.
