Food Service Cook

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare ingredients for cooking, such as chopping vegetables, cutting meats, and preparing sauces.
  • Follow recipes and portion sizes to ensure consistency and quality of dishes.
  • Cook food to order and ensure that each plate meets quality standards before serving.
  • Cook food to the appropriate level of doneness and garnish plates according to menu specifications.
  • Ensure that all food is served in a timely manner and to the restaurant’s presentation standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen to promote efficiency.

Food Safety & Sanitation

  • Follow all food safety protocols, including proper food storage, temperature control, and hygiene practices.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen tools, equipment, and work areas regularly.
  • Ensure compliance with health regulations and restaurant safety standards.

Inventory & Stocking

  • Monitor inventory levels and report shortages or need for reordering supplies.
  • Assist in receiving and storing deliveries, ensuring proper rotation of stock.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with other kitchen staff to maintain kitchen efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively with the front-of-house team to ensure smooth coordination between the kitchen and dining area.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Operate kitchen equipment (grills, fryers, ovens, etc.) safely and efficiently.

Quality Control

  • Ensure food quality, consistency, and portion control.
  • Resolve any issues with food preparation or cooking, ensuring customer satisfaction.

Experience

  • Previous experience as a line cook or in a fast-paced kitchen environment preferred.

Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, kitchen safety, and sanitation standards.

Skills

  • Ability to follow recipes and instructions, multitask effectively, and work in a high-pressure environment.

Physical Stamina

  • Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and handle kitchen tools and equipment safely.

Teamwork

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with other kitchen and service staff.

Education/Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food preparation and presentation.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Professional appearance.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to use email and internet.

Working Conditions

  • Work in a fast-paced, high-energy kitchen environment.
  • Potential exposure to hot surfaces, sharp utensils, and cleaning chemicals.
  • This is a full-time, seasonal position working at Sun Outdoors Myrtle Beach located in Conway, SC.
  • This position is for 2nd shift.
