Job Description
The Assistant Coffeehouse Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a licensed specialty coffee location within an SSA-managed cultural attraction. This role leads a team of baristas, ensures product quality and consistency, and delivers an exceptional guest experience that reflects both SSA's 452 Hospitality standards and the expectations of the licensed brand.
- Oversee all daily café operations including opening/closing, staffing, and service flow.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of baristas to deliver consistent, high-quality beverage experiences.
- Spend the majority of scheduled hours on the floor—handcrafting beverages, running the register, modeling service behavior, stepping in during peak periods, and connecting with customers.
- Ensure compliance with licensed brand standards, recipes, and operational procedures.
- Manage inventory, ordering, and waste control to meet cost targets.
- Maintain cleanliness, food safety, and health code standards.
- Partner with the Food Operations team on scheduling, labor management, and reporting.
- Handle guest concerns with professionalism and in alignment with 452 Hospitality values.
- Train new team members on product knowledge, equipment use, and service standards.
- Partner with Food Operations team on the execution of food and beverage programs, quality, and daily oversight.
- Communicate coffee shop performance metrics to leadership on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, surfacing trends, wins, and areas needing support.
- Uphold and demonstrate a complete understanding of company policies and procedures.
- Perform other tasks as deemed necessary.
- Support catering or event beverage needs as required by the venue.
Job Requirements
- Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of espresso-based beverages and specialty coffee standards.
- Licensed brand experience strongly preferred.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Demonstrates merchandising, analytical, planning, and leadership skills.
- Ability to remain flexible in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer skills for standard office functions.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and to move and handle boxes (up to 35 lbs), including lifting and performing all functions set forth above.
- Ability to work varied hours/days, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
- Previous Experience: Two years of food service or retail operations experience; depending on volume, additional experience may be preferred.
- ServSafe or Food Handler certified.
- All educational backgrounds eligible; must be 18 or older.
