About the role

Responsible for assisting the School Dining Services program as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in maintaining high standard of nutrition for school dining service program.
  • Assists in preparing, cooking, and serving meals (Breakfast & Lunch) at assigned school.
  • Follows all established sanitation procedures.
  • Assists in student, money, and meal accountability as required in assigned school.
  • Assists in supervision of children during meal service as required in assigned school.
  • Washes and sanitizes food service utensils.
  • Works harmoniously with staff.
  • Uses equipment correctly and reports needed maintenance.
  • Lifts and stores food and food-related products.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Training in sanitation, food handling, and safety.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively with individuals and groups of employees.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to use a Personal Computer with database, spreadsheet, and word-processing software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely in both oral and written communication.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Committee policies.

Physical demands

  • Regularly required to sit and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to stand and walk.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
