About the role
As a food runner, your primary responsibility is to deliver all food from the kitchen to guests in the dining room. Despite minimal guest interaction, you are expected to coordinate and communicate effectively with the kitchen and other team members to ensure exceptional guest experiences.
Responsibilities
- Ensures the kitchen is properly cleaned and set before, during, and after each shift.
- Provides assistance to Food Servers, Chefs, and Managers in accommodating guest needs and requests.
- Ensures all kitchen station supplies are maintained at par levels.
- Treats guests with courtesy and respect.
- Is always appropriately groomed and wears the provided uniform.
- Delivers all foods to guests in the dining room.
- Describes the main components of a dish upon delivery.
- Has complete knowledge of products and specifications.
- Aids Front and Back servers in maintaining beverage and condiment stations.
- Replenishes bread, butter, water, coffee, and tea as needed during the meal.
- Able to expedite food lines and use the Micros system.
- Able to process guest payments and ring up food orders.
- Able to adjust dining room tables.
- Able to work in extreme weather conditions.
- Assists in clearing and resetting tables.
- Operates as a member of a team: help others and request help as needed.
- Performs assigned side work: transport used linens, china, glassware, and flatware from the kitchen to designated locations during the meal.
- Adds additional related duties as requested by the Front Waiter and/or Manager.
- Clears tables and stacks scraped dishes in the dish area.
- Maintains cleanliness of the kitchen and dining room floor.
Qualifications
- Basic reading skills.
- At least 1 year of restaurant dining room experience; 6 months of gourmet restaurant dining room experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Food Handlers Card.
- Alcohol Awareness.
- Must be able to stand and walk continuously with a 20-pound tray throughout the shift.
- Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds.
- Must be able to work in extreme heat during the summer months.
- Must be able to stand for the entire shift.
- Must be able to access service areas when picking up beverage orders.
- Must be able to converse over the telephone in an environment with loud background noise.
- Must have the manual dexterity required to write drink orders, prepare drinks and garnishes, and beverage orders.
- Must be able to listen and respond to visual and aural cues.
- Must be able to simultaneously handle the demands of many customers.
