Food Prep Lead

About the role

Full-time position with flexible shift availability including days, evenings, overnights, and weekends.

Essential Duties

• Food Merchandising: Ensure grocery deliveries are accurate, stocked, attractively displayed, and priced correctly; complete build-to’s; maintain inventory by checking in deliveries, pricing items, and stocking merchandise; validate deliveries by verifying invoices and reviewing discrepancies; prepare displays; rotate food items and monitor quality/freshness; maintain food preparation areas and display cases; assist in training new associates; monitor inventory to prevent out-of-stock items; coach staff on suggestive selling and other sales techniques; make price changes and place advertising/signage.
• Customer Satisfaction: Provide prompt, courteous, and attentive customer service; greet customers and thank them upon departure; resolve routine customer concerns; adhere to dress and appearance code; prepare and serve quality food and beverages.
• Facility Condition: Maintain a safe and clean environment by sweeping, mopping, dusting, washing windows, picking up trash, inspecting facilities/equipment, and cleaning/sanitizing food service equipment.
• Financial Controls: Notify Store Manager of inventory or operating discrepancies; verify product quality/quantity during deliveries; follow guidelines for product breakage/spoilage.
• Staffing Controls: Supervise food prep employees in the absence of the Store Manager; coach and train new employees; monitor customer traffic and adjust staffing; assist with employee counseling and performance feedback.
• Internal/External Controls: Ensure compliance with government laws, health/safety codes, brand inspection standards, and company policies; seek guidance on legal obligations; report unsafe or unethical conduct.
• Security Controls: Assist in maintaining a safe environment; report incidents (injuries, theft, property damage, sanitation issues) to the Store Manager.
• Administrative: Attend job-related meetings; maintain intradepartmental workflow; comply with company policies; perform other duties as assigned; keep accurate timekeeping records; may take inventory of supplies/equipment.

Job Requirements

• Minimum age: 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 months to 1 year of retail store or food service experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
• Knowledge of basic business and customer service principles, including planning, organizing, resource management, and leadership skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly and understandably.
• Ability to handle customers, unanticipated problems, or events using standard procedures.
• Ability to work as scheduled, including arriving on time.
• Ability to operate equipment such as hot/cold beverage dispensers, grills, ovens, fry stations, and other tools.
• Ability to perform essential duties and physical functions described below.

Work Environment

• Approximately 95% of work indoors; may include cleaning parking lots, gas pumps, and taking out garbage.
• Exposure to extreme cold temperatures in walk-in coolers/freezers.
• Occasional noise exposure.
• Work with minimal direction and periodic supervision.

Physical Requirements

• Exposure to cold or warm temperature extremes (e.g., walk-in coolers/freezers, outdoor tasks).
• Occasionally lift/carry up to 30 pounds from ground to overhead (e.g., stocking inventory).
• Occasionally lift/carry up to 50 pounds from ground to waist (e.g., replenishing fountain syrups).
• Grasp, reach, and manipulate objects with hands for entire shift (requires eye-hand coordination).
• Push/pull with arms up to 20 pounds (e.g., using a hand-truck).
• Reach overhead; bend, twist at waist; stoop, kneel, squat, push, and pull.
• Stand and/or walk for an entire shift; may require climbing a ladder to store/retrieve materials or place/remove signs.
• Ability to communicate orally and operate a cash register/computer keyboard.

Hiring Range

$17.50 to $18.00 per hour.
