About the role

The Food & Beverage Manager oversees and coordinates the operations of the bar, small plates, and dining room at the Maryland Club. Key responsibilities include supervising staff, managing inventory, and ensuring exceptional guest experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate activities of the food and beverage outlets staff to ensure prompt and courteous service.
  • Pro-actively deal with guest queries, advise on menus and beverage selections, and ensure satisfaction with food and service.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date plan of restaurant staffing needs and prepare schedules.
  • Ensure consistent high quality of food preparation and service, manage inventory, and adhere to company standards and service levels.
  • Maintain professional restaurant image, including cleanliness, uniform standards, and appearance.
  • Complete financial and HR/Payroll administrative duties accurately and on time.
  • Supervise general cleaning tasks and ensure adherence to health standards.
  • Ensure a safe working and guest environment to reduce risks of injury and accidents.
  • Provide guidance to guests at the Maryland Club, including dining options and information about University of Maryland attractions.
  • Oversee Club Supervisors and Staff, keep Director of Clubs Operations informed of issues, and take prompt corrective action.
  • Attend weekly operations meetings and assist with the management of catering events.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications

  • College degree preferred, Bachelor of Science in hotel/restaurant management desirable.
  • At least 3 years of hospitality experience in a fine dining restaurant.
  • Proficient in food planning and preparation, inventory management, sanitation, service standards, staffing, and employee management.
  • Able to organize time effectively, prioritize tasks, and multitask.
  • Able to read, speak, and write English, with additional language skills advantageous.
  • Genuine interest and understanding in food and drink, with excellent knowledge of wine and cocktail knowledge.
  • Able to work long hours, flexible shifts, including mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Excellent knowledge of food and beverage preparations, service standards, guest relations, and etiquette.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to think on one's feet and maintain a positive outlook.

Benefits

Competitive salary range of $65,000 - $70,000 commensurate with experience, and a generous benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, paid vacation, and a 401(k) plan.
