About The Role

The Food & Beverage Manager is responsible for overseeing the serving of guests in the venue's dining areas and catering functions. This role requires a personable individual who thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. The Banquet/Food & Beverage Manager will manage scheduling, setup, and execution of events, including training, inventory, and special events.

About The Venue

Western Kentucky’s award-winning venue—the Owensboro Convention Center—is a full-service facility overlooking the scenic Ohio River in revitalized downtown Owensboro, Kentucky. The multi-purpose center offers just under 102,000 sq. ft. of available space, including a 44,000+ sq. ft. exhibition hall, the 8,900+ sq. ft. Kentucky Legend® Pier, and additional ballroom, meeting, and prefunction spaces. The Sportscenter, one of Owensboro’s most historic buildings, is a 5,000-seat arena hosting concerts, sporting events, graduations, trade shows, meetings, and receptions.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the serving of meals to guests or direct guests to the buffet line.
  • Serve beverages to guests, including alcoholic beverages, and verify minimum age requirements for alcohol purchases.
  • Ensure tableware and linens are replaced as necessary.
  • Schedule, recruit, train, and monitor staff to ensure proper guest service.
  • Recommend dishes, identify ingredients, and explain menu item preparation.
  • Assist in setting up banquet functions, including linens, dishware, glassware, and silverware.
  • Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas.
  • Meet company standards for excellent attendance.
  • Ensure location equipment is operable and clean prior to events.
  • Identify and cut off alcohol service to visibly intoxicated guests.
  • Manage staff to observe company policies and ensure guest service standards.
  • Assist with training, inventory, and special events as part of the management team.
  • Foster a positive working environment to achieve company service standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management for the betterment of the company.

Requirements

  • At least 3-5 years of managerial experience in a fast-paced restaurant or catering environment.
  • Ability to supervise and communicate effectively with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management, and guests in a clear, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment.
  • Valid food handling certificate or alcohol service permit, if required by state or federal regulations.
  • Ability to maintain budgeted percentages relative to actual P&L.
  • Proficiency in handling cash accurately and responsibly.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages) for POS transactions, cash reconciliation, and inventory management.

Pay

$45,000 to $52,000 annually.
