Folding Machine Operator

Folding Operator responsible for operating and adjusting all equipment in the Folding Department, including Top Loader, Bowie, Folders, and Cutter.

Schedule

5:45 am to 5:45 pm on a 3/4 schedule, with every other Wednesday worked.

Responsibilities

  • Set up precision folding jobs for customers on various pieces of equipment in the department.
  • Follow instructions specified on the job board and ensure the correct job board is being used.
  • Perform precision folds, cuts, or collates of customer jobs as per instructions on the job board.
  • Maintain the integrity of the match on match jobs.
  • Ensure proper folding order is followed.
  • Adhere to all SWP Safety Procedures.
  • Fill out time sheet accurately each day to reflect all requested information.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • All work must meet customer specifications.
  • Ability to understand specifications and adjustments needed for various job requirements to ensure quality production with minimal errors and waste.

Safety Hazards

  • Works with machinery that has high-speed moving parts.
  • Cutters have sharp blades that could cause life-threatening injuries if safety procedures are not followed.
  • Noise levels consistently exceed allowable levels; hearing protection is required.
  • Heavy lifting and proper lifting techniques are required.

Safety Procedures

  • Machine must be turned off before clearing paper jams.
  • Extremities are not to be placed inside moving machine parts during operation.
  • Cutting board must be used to straighten/adjust stacked paper inside cutter.
  • No liquids should be placed on or around the machine during operation.
  • Follow proper lifting technique:
    • Ensure your path is dry and clear of objects that could cause a fall before lifting.
    • Bend your knees and keep your back straight (lift with your legs, not your back).
    • Bring the load close to your body.
    • Lift in a slow, even motion.
    • Do not twist your body; if you must turn, move your feet.
    • Keep your back straight when putting down the load.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent grasping of material with both hands.
  • Frequent bending and stooping to move material.
  • Ability to stand for long periods (11-hour shifts).
  • Regular heavy lifting of up to 50 lbs.
