About the role
The Foaming Technician is responsible for injecting insulating foam into a variety of products, including polyethylene and fiberglass containers, cryogenic freezers, and CO₂ storage tanks. This role follows company procedures and manufacturer recommendations to operate equipment safely and effectively while supporting quality, efficiency, and housekeeping standards in the production area.
Responsibilities
- Follow company procedures and manufacturer recommendations for equipment operation.
- Make recommendations for procedural changes as needed.
- Recognize product defects, voids, or flaws and identify probable causes.
- Determine whether raw materials meet specifications through periodic quality checks.
- Monitor the foaming system and related equipment, including foam room temperature control, nitrogen pressure, and tank fill percentage.
- Immediately report actual or potential equipment, material, or process issues to supervisors.
- Maintain tools and equipment in optimum working conditions.
- Keep jigs and fixtures clean, waxed, and properly adjusted.
- Report needed jig or fixture repairs to the supervisor immediately.
- Thoroughly clean all fixtures before warehousing once a job is completed.
- Use shop supplies and materials efficiently, especially when conducting equipment ratio checks.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices in the work area.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend detailed instructions, correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, and subordinate employees.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to use and accurately read a tape measure.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out oral, written, or drawn instructions involving multiple steps.
- Ability to work through standardized situations with multiple potential variables.
- Ability to stand regularly; walk, handle materials, and reach frequently; and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
- Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to work in an environment with occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock.
- Ability to wear face shield protection when injecting foam.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
- Experience operating or supporting foaming systems and related equipment.
