FMC CORRECTION OFFICER

About the role

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is seeking candidates for the position of Correction Officer. This role involves maintaining safety and security within the institution, supervising inmate activities, and enforcing rules and policies.

Responsibilities

• Maintain control of the institution to ensure safety and security
• Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas
• Ensure assigned area is clean, safe, and secure
• Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers
• Operate automotive vehicles in perimeter security and transport inmates
• Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches
• Complete required reports and serve on committees
• Prevent escapes or incidents threatening security
• Necessary: Use physical force, unarmed self-defense, firearms, or other force to detain or secure inmates

Requirements

• Highest high school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license for positions in the transportation section, and/or commercial driver’s license for vehicle qualifications
• Pass correction officer assessment or have passed within the last 24 months, or be a current employee with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction with prior certification in the correction officer position

Benefits

• Step 1 starting salary: $24.88 per hour
• Step 2 starting salary: $25.61 per hour after 6 months
• Additional .60 per hour for working 2nd or 3rd shift

Pay

• Starting salary: Step 1 at $24.88 per hour
• Step 2 after 6 months: $25.61 per hour
• Additional .60 per hour for 2nd or 3rd shift

Schedule

• Full-time
