Floating Custodian

About the role

This position ensures cleanliness, sanitation, security, and basic maintenance across all Mapleton Public School locations. The Floating Custodian will work primarily in the afternoon/evening but must be flexible to adjust schedules based on district needs. The role involves setting up for events, minor repairs, and responding to emergencies to maintain a safe and pleasant learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Clean classrooms, restrooms, offices, hallways, and locker rooms by vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, dusting, buffing, scrubbing floors, washing windows, and removing trash.
• Perform minor maintenance, including changing light bulbs, cleaning vents, inspecting boilers, pipes, roofs, and making basic repairs to buildings, furniture, and equipment.
• Report maintenance issues to supervisors or appropriate departments.
• Ensure building security by locking/unlocking doors, addressing unsafe conditions, and reporting issues.
• Set up for school programs, meetings, assemblies, and after-hours events, including moving furniture, audio-visual equipment, and lighting.
• Assist with ground maintenance, such as trash removal, snow/ice removal, and cleaning exterior windows and doors.
• Respond to emergencies (e.g., fire alarms, broken pipes, electrical issues) and assist staff in ensuring student and staff safety.
• Perform seasonal, summer, and project cleaning as assigned.
• Assist students, staff, and community groups using the building during assigned shifts.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• No prior experience required.
• Basic oral and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to operate custodial equipment (training provided if not already proficient).
• Ability to prioritize tasks, adapt to changes, and follow district policies and procedures.
• Valid Colorado driver’s license.
• Pass a criminal background check.

Physical Demands

• Regularly stand, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Frequently climb or balance; occasionally sit.
• Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly, up to 100 pounds frequently, and occasionally more than 100 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Exposure to wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high places, fumes, chemicals, extreme temperatures, and outdoor weather.
• Moderate noise levels; potential risks include electrical shock and vibration.

Pay

$20.49 - $30.10 per hour (CD-1 Range).

Schedule

• 260 days per year, 8 hours per day.
• Primary shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM, with flexibility to adjust based on weekly needs.
