About the role

Working Title: Cashier/Assistant. School/Department: Child Nutrition Services. Location: School Site. Position Purpose: Performs work to prepare, cook and serve meals, salads and a la-carte items; prepares entrees, vegetables, and other side dishes according to standardized recipes and keeps accurate documentation of food preparation. Responsible for collecting monies, accurate meal counts, and recording fees received for the purchase of meals and other food. FLSA Status: Nonexempt. Eligibility for Employment Contract: No. Effective Date: 7/2026.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, cooks and serves meals, salads and a la-carte items; prepares entrees, vegetables, and other side dishes according to standardized recipes and keeps accurate documentation of food preparation.
• Serves as a cashier in the school cafeteria to collect money; responsible for accurate records of all food leaving the serving line by accurately using a computerized point of sale system to record sales.
• Follows accurate procedures for the exchange and collection of monies, assists in the preparation of deposits.
• Participates in on‑the‑job training to understand requirements of federally reimbursable meals, identification of meals on the serving line, and food preparation.
• Reads, interprets, and follows standardized recipes for food preparation in a school cafeteria.
• Ensures the kitchen area, equipment, and utensils are kept clean according to sanitation codes; follows a schedule for maintaining
