About the role

Rapides Regional Medical Center is a 350+ bed hospital and ER in Alexandria, Louisiana. We offer services ranging from Cancer Care to Wound Care. Our medical staff includes doctors in more than 30 medical specialties.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the leader of the Nursing Care team who is ultimately responsible and accountable to the patient for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient focused, outcome oriented care.
  • Develops competencies for functioning safely in all areas of Medical/Surgical services.
  • Nursing plan of care includes all age groups with the exception of infants.
  • Identifies and documents patient’s physical, nutritional, psychosocial, spiritual, emotional, cultural, educational, and rehabilitative needs in the clinical record and communicates to the physician, case manager, and ancillary departments when appropriate.
  • Initiates, professionally modifies, and communicates appropriate standards of care, care plans, and interventions to the patient and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Coordinates patient care activities through collaboration and planning with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Carefully carries out physicians’ orders and clarifies when necessary.
  • Promptly communicates adverse or sudden changes in the patient’s condition to the physician, charge nurse, nursing supervisor, and/or family with specific and pertinent data.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to identify potential or actual victims of abuse and understand the proper reporting mechanism.
  • Demonstrates understanding of proper reporting mechanism for adverse drug reactions once identified.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary for administering blood and blood products and appropriately monitors the patient receiving blood/blood products for any transfusion reaction; takes proper measures once a reaction is recognized.
  • Utilizes patient care equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Promotes and follows standard precautions in the utilization of principles of infection control in patient care.
  • Achieves stated goals related to job performance.
  • Attends all required educational programs/in-services.

Requirements

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Registered Nurse licensed to practice in the State of Louisiana.
  • Registered Nurse Diploma.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support, or CPR for Healthcare Providers must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.

  • Ability to identify potential or actual victims of abuse and understand the proper reporting mechanism.
  • Understanding of proper reporting mechanism for adverse drug reactions once identified.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary for identifying and managing patient pain.
  • Ability to administer medications and monitor patients for adverse reactions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to perform tasks independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow hospital policies and procedures related to infection control and patient safety.

Pay

The pay for the Registered Nurse Float Pool position is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Schedule

The shift for this position is Days, rotating weekends.
