Flight Nurse Float- Northeast Region

About the role

In the Northeast, you'll deliver lifesaving care for the community you love and live in, soaring above NY, PA, VA, MA and many more landscapes! With 3+ years of recent critical care, and one previous year of flight nursing experience, you'll fly in state-of-the-art helicopters—an ICU in the sky—providing advanced care while continuing your education with our support.

Responsibilities

• Provides nursing care within scope of practice from initial contact until patient care is relinquished to accepting medical facility; maintains thorough patient care documentation
• Maintain and demonstrate competency in clinical knowledge and psychomotor skills through ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences
• Communicate educational needs to Clinical Education Team and maintain current documentation of licensure, certifications, continuing education, aviation and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA compliance, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures
• Demonstrate proficiency with all Air Methods CBS equipment and supplies; report medical equipment failures promptly and coordinate repairs
• Maintain adequate patient care supplies onboard aircraft and keep aircraft clean and organized to ensure rapid response capability
• Attend all pre-mission briefings, debriefings, and complete required documentation
• Participate in pre-mission checklists and assist pilot with radio, navigational, and visual observation activities as requested
• Strictly comply with all safety standards to protect yourself, medical personnel, patients, and equipment; conduct aircraft safety briefings when needed
• Serves as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel when transporting specialty patients by helicopter
• Performs advanced skills and procedures as approved by Air Methods CBS Medical Director(s)
• Participate in patient follow-up, referring institution coordination, and planned outreach marketing and education activities
• Serve as a preceptor and/or participate in orientation of new employees and students as assigned
• Communicate program goals and objectives to new team members
• Participates regularly in Air Methods CBS meetings, activities, projects and committees (to include research and publishing opportunities)
• Other duties as assigned

Additional job requirements

• Maintains a high level of flexibility and availability to be scheduled for a minimum of two 24 hour shifts per week at any CBS base where currently licensed
• Schedules are provided by Centralized Scheduling team 4–8 weeks in advance; self-scheduling is not permitted
• Inability to be scheduled for two shifts per week as a result of providing limited availability (less than 5 consecutive days per week), in the absence of requested benefit time, will result in disciplinary action up to and including removal from the float position
• Indicate the percentage of time spent traveling – 85%
• Subject to applicable laws and Air Methods' policies, regular attendance is an essential function of the position

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
• Bachelor's degree in health-related field preferred
• Minimum three (3) years of recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the last 5 years, or as required by state/local EMS regulations
• Pre-hospital experience preferred
• Flight experience: 1 year full-time required
• As a member of the Clinical Flight Crew, maintain a weight not to exceed 225 pounds including empty flight suit and boots

• Possess clinical skills required by your state's scope of practice and advanced practice skills as defined by the Medical Director(s) and Medical Standards
• Build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the public through strong communication, collaboration, and teamwork at all levels
• Demonstrate strong critical thinking, reasoning skills, and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
• Prioritize multiple tasks and manage complex situations effectively
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including 24-hour shifts, overtime, and on-call rotations
• Dependable and self-motivated while working in a frequently changing environment
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Current RN License(s) for states of practice where Air Methods maintains CBS locations; Nurse compact license preferred
• EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations
• Current certifications: Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR; ACLS; PALS or equivalent (AHA courses if state or county required) and TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced provider (if state or county required)
• Specialty certification (CFRN, CCRN, or CEN) required
• Advanced Trauma Course requirement: one of the following – TNCC, ATLS/ATCN, TPATC or CAMTS approved advanced trauma course (advanced skills lab may be required for some courses; a second trauma course may be required based on state requirements)
• Current NRP certification
• NIMS Training: IS 100, 200, 700, 800, and HazMat

Pay

Minimum pay USD $89,406.72/Yr. Maximum Pay USD $109,274.88/Yr.
