Flexo Machine Operator - 1st Shift

About the Role

Sets up and operates a machine to print designs, cut, and score cardboard to create containers.

Responsibilities

• Accurately and efficiently set up and operate the machine by selecting and fastening printing plates, filling ink pails with required colors, adjusting ink flow and spacing guides, and checking the glue station.
• Ensure diagonal and corrugator scores are deep enough for proper folding.
• Maximize machine utilization by operating at available capacity and speed while minimizing waste of sheet stock, inks, and glue.
• Inspect containers to verify quality, checking for miss-slotted containers, loose liners, misprints, or other defects.
• Train and assist machine helpers with job duties, switching roles as needed for training purposes.
• Train on other machines to provide backup support and be willing to move to another machine or shift based on company needs.
• Complete necessary reports neatly, accurately, and timely, including production, safety, quality data, machine operational status, and maintenance work orders for cutting dies and printing plates.
• Maintain equipment proactively, submit maintenance work orders for repairs, and follow up to ensure repairs are completed.
• Adhere to the daily production schedule, report unusual scheduling issues, and make recommendations for optimizing schedules to meet cost, quality, delivery, and customer service goals.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and good housekeeping.
• Follow corporate quality, sanitation, GMP, and HACCP standards to achieve a finished product within quality control specifications.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Minimum of two years of experience in printing and die cutting within the corrugated industry.
• Mathematical skills, including the ability to read a tape measure (1/16th increments).
• Basic computer skills.
• Reliable transportation.
• Must be available to work any shift, overtime as required, and weekends when needed.

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
• Frequently required to stand and walk.
• Occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include distance vision, close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
• Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
• Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.
