Fleet Trainer

About the Role

The Fleet Trainer is responsible for training individuals who drive company vehicles in a safe, timely, and efficient manner while ensuring compliance with company standards and external regulations (FMCSR, etc.). This role emphasizes integrity, respect, proactive thinking, thorough planning, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Assists in developing, implementing, and continuously improving Fleet Safety training programs, including on-the-job and virtual trainings via the company LMS.
• Manages the onboarding of drivers, including training and evaluating them on company driving standards and expectations during their initial weeks of employment.
• Performs annual driver observations and re-training as necessary, including in-person ride-alongs or virtual observations to assess driving and safety performance.
• Develops action plans for improvement alongside driver managers when necessary.
• Participates in the company accident committee and integrates findings into the training program.
• Interprets and complies with transportation regulations (FMCSR, safety regulations, Fleet Safety Program) and company policies and procedures.
• Adheres to safety, food safety, quality, and Good Manufacturing Practices regulations.
• Reports safety, food safety, and quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from a four-year college or university preferred but not required.
• Three years of experience in transportation, warehousing, or a related field.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
• Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in situations with limited standardization.
• Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word; familiarity with Learning Management Systems and/or content creators preferred.
• CDL Class A License preferred.
• Smith System Certified Trainer certification preferred.
• Ability to travel up to 50%.

Physical Demands

• Frequently required to sit and talk or hear.
• Occasionally required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

• Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
