Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate all shop activities during the assigned shift, ensuring timely completion of preventive maintenance and repairs on Class 8 trucks and related equipment.
- Lead, coach, and support diesel technicians to drive productivity, quality of work, and adherence to safety standards.
- Serve as the first point of contact for fleet-related issues during the shift and escalate critical concerns as needed.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, company safety policies, and environmental regulations.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and software, including Cummins INSITE and Mack diagnostic systems, to support troubleshooting and repair efforts.
- Review work orders, prioritize repairs, and manage shift workflow to minimize vehicle downtime.
- Cover shift handoffs, document outstanding issues, and communicate effectively with other supervisors and operations teams.
- Monitor parts usage, coordinate with parts personnel, and support inventory control efforts.
- Promote a positive, team-oriented shop culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and respect.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience overseeing shop or maintenance operations, preferably within the waste, recycling, or heavy-duty trucking industry.
- Demonstrated experience working with Class 8 vehicles.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a maintenance or fleet environment.
- Strong understanding of preventive maintenance programs and repair processes.
- Ability to lead by example with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
- CDL license is a plus.
- Proficiency with Cummins INSITE and Mack diagnostic tools.
- Shop-based role within a waste and recycling fleet environment, with regular exposure to Class 8 refuse vehicles, compactors, hydraulics, and related heavy equipment.
- Shift-based schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on operational needs, route coverage, and fleet demands.
