Salary range: $25.35 – $39.32 per hour

  • Fleet Mechanic I hiring range: $25.35 – $35.14 per hour
  • Fleet Mechanic II hiring range: $28.05 – $39.32 per hour

Schedule

Full-time, non-exempt position. Typical schedule is in-office Monday through Friday. Evenings, weekends, and overtime may be required during emergencies.

About the role

The Fleet Mechanic I and II positions are essential to keeping Greenwood Village moving. You’ll perform major and minor mechanical repairs on internal combustion and diesel engines, diagnose vehicle issues, and maintain a variety of maintenance equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on City vehicles and equipment
  • Perform preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and emission testing
  • Operate shop machinery and tools, including lathes, presses, grinders, and welding equipment
  • Document repairs and maintain accurate service records
  • Manage parts inventory and coordinate with vendors for purchases
  • Assist with specialized fabrication and welding (Mechanic II)
  • Support emergency operations and snow/ice control when needed

Requirements

Mechanic I

  • 0–2 years of automotive mechanical repair experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred
  • Ability to obtain a valid Class “B” CDL within 180 days
  • Strong troubleshooting and repair skills

Mechanic II

  • 2+ years of automotive mechanical repair experience
  • ASE Certification, Emissions License Certification, and A/C 609 Certification
  • Ability to meet DOT inspector qualifications
  • Welding and fabrication experience
  • Equivalent to an associate’s degree in automotive repair or related field

Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of internal combustion and diesel engines
  • Ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical systems
  • Proficiency with shop tools and equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and safety practices
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform manual labor is required
