Fleet Mechanic I

About the Role

Responsible for the repair, maintenance, installation, and overhaul of all PVSC vehicles and associated equipment.

Requirements

• Solid knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and other related equipment
• Knowledge of auto body maintenance and garage practices
• Ability to read, understand, and use automotive repair manuals and pneumatic/hydraulic schematics
• Knowledge of safety precautions for mechanical and auto body repair tasks
• Availability for emergencies/job assignments on a 24-hour basis
• Minimum seven (7) years’ experience with automotive equipment repair in a shop with a modern preventive maintenance and inventory control program
• Valid N.J. driver's license with a minimum CDL Class B endorsement (Class A preferred)
• High school diploma or equivalency certificate required

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification and advanced training from an accredited technical or trade school are preferred but not required.

Physical Demands

• Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
• Qualification for entry into confined spaces while wearing proper PPE (e.g., canister and dust masks, SCBA)
• Ability to perform physical activities requiring considerable use of arms, legs, and whole body, such as climbing (including ladders), lifting up to 50 lbs., balancing, walking, stooping, and handling heavy objects

Working Conditions

Workers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system and will be required to work indoors and outdoors.

Pay

The expected base pay range for this position is $97,771 to $122,150. The specific salary offered may be influenced by factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, education, training, and formal credentials.
