About the role
The Mechanic 2 is responsible for keeping all vehicles in the fleet roadworthy and ready for service when needed. This position requires performing all preventive maintenance and repair work necessary on fleet trucks/trailers and other company equipment, interpreting repair manuals and work orders, and maintaining a clean environment.
Responsibilities
- Performs all preventive maintenance and repair work necessary on fleet trucks/trailers and other company equipment.
- Interprets repair manuals and work orders as to properly repair the equipment.
- Maintains clean environment.
- May be required to answer roadside calls for disabled vehicles.
- Responsible for being familiar with and observing all company safety rules and regulations; recognizes that safety is top company priority; attends regularly scheduled safety meetings.
- Required to use all safety equipment as assigned.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Vocational training plus one (1) year of related work experience OR three (3) years of related work experience required.
- Ability to service and diagnose brakes.
- Ability to service and diagnose diesel trucks, (tractor/trailers) and power-train mechanics.
- Basic use of hand-tools required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational training preferred.
- Detail oriented; highly organized.
- CDL preferred, not required
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Self-starter; self-motivated.
- Good math and computer skills.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Constantly - Exposed to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environments such as high noise level, strong odors, and/or exposure to heat and cold.
- Frequently - Exposed to bio hazardous conditions.
- Frequently - Exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations.
- Frequently - Exposed to Electrical hazards; risk of electrical shock.
- Frequently - Handles or works with potentially dangerous equipment.
- Frequently - Must be able to remain in a stationary position (Sit).
- Frequently - Must be able to move about inside/outside office or work location (Walk).
- Frequently - Operates a computer and other office machinery (Use hands to finger, handle or feel).
- Frequently - Must be able to position one's self to maintain computers in the lab, including under desks and in the server closet (Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl).
- Frequently - Must be able to ascend/descend on a ladder (Climb or balance).
- Frequently - Must be able to use senses to; effectively communicate with co-workers and clients and detect hazardous conditions (Talk, hear, taste, smell).
