Fleet Maintenance Mechanic II

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections, maintenance, and repairs on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including trucks, trailers, forklifts, pickups, and farm equipment
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brake systems, electrical systems, steering, and cooling systems
  • Complete complex and advanced repairs
  • Track, document, and review maintenance and repair work performed on vehicles and equipment
  • Ensure all services and repairs comply with established safety procedures and company standards
  • Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance and support to less experienced Fleet Maintenance Mechanics
  • Drive delivery or manure trucks as needed
  • Provide assistance in the field during peak planting and harvesting seasons (Clarence Shop)
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Attention to Detail: Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve detailed mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues
  • Mechanical Skills: Advanced knowledge of complex machinery, engines, and repair techniques beyond entry-level maintenance
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in electronic systems, blueprint and schematic reading, and electronic diagnostic equipment
  • Troubleshooting Skills: Ability to independently evaluate mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, identify root causes, and implement effective repair solutions
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to less experienced mechanics

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma is required
  • Associate degree in diesel technology or a related field is preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance, or Associate degree in diesel technology and three years of experience is required
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) permit required; CDL preferred

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Regularly required to stand, drive, climb, bend, twist, crawl, talk, see, hear, and walk
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds (with assistance) on occasion
  • Ability to use fine motor skills when working on equipment
  • May need to work in small spaces, climb ladders, or access elevated areas in the course of work
  • Work long hours in a fast-paced environment, which may include weekends and holidays
  • Exposure to all types of weather, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and dust
  • Loud machinery, farm vehicles, and various equipment/tools (PPE may be required)
  • Farm and industrial environment - including noise, dust, odors, manure, and varying terrain
  • A dynamic work environment with frequently changing tasks based on project demands
