Fleet Maintenance Technician III Lead (KG)

Under general supervision, diagnose, maintain, repair, and service a wide variety of fleet vehicles, equipment, and specialized vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, perform maintenance, and repair on light, medium, and heavy vehicles and equipment
  • Service vehicles with fuel, oil, and coolant; perform preventive maintenance by checking items such as battery condition, tire air pressure, coolant and oil levels, and hydraulic and brake fluid levels
  • Perform skilled repair and maintenance on a variety of gasoline-powered equipment and vehicles, such as replacing bearings, axle seals, brake master cylinders, resurfacing brake drums and rotors, etc.
  • Repair, overhaul, replace and rebuild engine and various components of vehicles and equipment
  • Diagnose, maintain and repair hydraulic systems
  • Coordinate with administration and other trades to complete projects/work orders efficiently
  • Perform and assist in the maintenance and repair of light, medium, and heavy vehicles and equipment to ensure the availability of equipment
  • Conduct installation and removal of auxiliary equipment
  • Respond to emergencies to resolve immediate safety concerns
  • Maintain tools and equipment to ensure the availability of equipment in safe operating condition

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least five years of related experience
  • Five or more Certification from National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE)
  • Master Certification from National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) preferred
  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Valid commercial driver’s license (A, B, or C with specific endorsements)
  • Must be able to successfully pass a federal, state, or local government’s background investigation

Skills

  • Ability to operate and give instruction for proper operation of light, medium, and heavy vehicles and equipment
  • Ability to diagnose the failure of vehicles and equipment from trade knowledge and to use diagnostic equipment to determine proper repair
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance; ability to operate, calibrate, tune, and synchronize equipment, machinery, and tools such as motor vehicles, motorized equipment, mechanic tools, drill press, welder, forklift, hydraulic press, battery tester, steam cleaner, power washer, and related materials
  • Ability to explain, demonstrate, and clarify to others within well-established policies, procedures, and standards
  • Ability to follow specific instructions and respond to simple requests from others
  • Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; calculate percentages and decimals
  • Ability to recognize and identify individual characteristics of colors and odors to determine the condition of fluids, shapes to distinguish objects clearly, sounds to determine if equipment is operating correctly, and textures to detect wear
  • Ability to use a computer to document work and work order status and perform parts requests

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands
  • Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to loud noises
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds at times
  • Ability to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands as necessary
  • Ability to hear and see to meet position and safety requirement levels
  • Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals
