About the role
Lead One of South Florida's Premier Fleet Maintenance Operations
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop maintenance technicians and shop personnel
- Recruit, hire, schedule, and manage shop employees
- Conduct performance evaluations and administer corrective action when necessary
- Foster a culture focused on safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
- Manage preventive maintenance and repair programs
- Maximize fleet availability and minimize equipment downtime
- Monitor repair quality, road calls, breakdown trends, and technician productivity
- Provide hands-on technical support and guidance when needed
- Ensure work is completed efficiently and safely
- Maintain compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, and company standards
- Partner with Operations and Safety leadership to maintain regulatory compliance
- Ensure accurate maintenance documentation and recordkeeping
- Promote safe work practices throughout the maintenance operation
- Develop and manage maintenance budgets
- Control repair costs while maintaining high-quality standards
- Oversee parts inventory and vendor relationships
- Monitor warranty recovery opportunities
- Aid with fleet replacement planning and equipment purchasing decisions
- Analyze maintenance KPIs and fleet performance metrics
- Identify opportunities to improve uptime and reduce maintenance costs
- Perform root cause analysis on recurring equipment failures
- Implement best practices, process improvements, and preventive maintenance initiatives
- Ensure maintenance management software and inventory systems remain accurate
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; technical or college education preferred
- 15+ years of progressive experience in fleet maintenance management, preferably within the waste, transportation, heavy equipment, or commercial fleet industries
- Proven leadership experience managing maintenance technicians, supervisors, and cross-functional teams
- Extensive knowledge of heavy-duty diesel truck maintenance; CNG fleet experience is strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of DOT, OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulatory requirements
- Demonstrated experience managing maintenance budgets, cost controls, resource planning, and asset management
- Strong project management, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization
- Able to prioritize multiple projects and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting maintenance data, generating reports, and identifying operational improvements
- High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and quality
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and computerized fleet maintenance management systems (such as Dossier or similar CMMS software)
- Proven record of professional achievement, leadership, and operational success
- Valid driver's license required
- CDL (Class A or B) preferred
- Brake Certification required
- Engine Rebuild Certification is a plus
