Fleet Maintenance Manager - Jackson

About the Role

The Maintenance Manager plans, organizes, and supervises the Division's maintenance staff and functions. This position is responsible for overall fleet and equipment support, including inspection, repair, pre/post servicing, vehicle distribution, quality assurance, and disposal at the Division level. The manager partners with the Regional Maintenance Manager and Operations teams to ensure fleet condition, equipment reliability, safety, and cost-effective performance.

Responsibilities

• Manages departmental hiring, training, coaching, performance management, discipline, scheduling of work assignments, and overtime authorization.
• Maintains an ongoing preventive and corrective maintenance program to set the standard for service excellence.
• Reviews status reports, including road calls, breakdowns, parts inventory, repairs, and safety performance.
• Provides hands-on maintenance assistance as needed.
• Educates drivers on DVIRs, fleet vehicle operation, and basic CDL requirements.
• Ensures all maintenance-related data is available for input into the vehicle maintenance system.
• Monitors Dossier efficiencies, including inventory control, performance goals, and reporting.
• Assists in purchasing new vehicles, equipment, tools, and containers.
• Establishes maintenance-related training sessions to improve fleet condition and operational knowledge for drivers, mechanics, and shop personnel.
• Administers and monitors regional adherence to federal and state programs, overseeing maintenance in accordance with EPA and other mandatory regulations.
• Verifies implementation of required DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations and monitors ongoing conformance.
• Coordinates efforts with local Safety, Corporate Safety, and the Regional Maintenance Manager.
• Ensures efficient utilization, vehicle maintenance quality, and transportation to ready-lines.
• Manages fleet inventory and condition reporting, including out-of-service listings matched to the asset list.
• Manages divisional maintenance budgets.
• Responsible for implementation and monitoring of all fleet maintenance activities (e.g., pre/post-trip inspections, safety lane, warranty recovery, tire standards, oil/lubricants, major component failure, and new initiatives).
• Facilitates movement of equipment between divisions, ensuring proper inspections and delivery in ready condition.
• Evaluates body damage estimates related to maintenance and fleet functions; manages cost controls and enhances vendor service.
• Evaluates equipment performance and recommends modifications or alternate vendors based on maintenance and costing information.
• Analyzes service issues related to fleet maintenance, performs root cause analysis, recommends remediation, and escalates as needed.
• Assists in purchasing and supports efforts to create useful metrics and performance diagnostic reporting tools (e.g., machinery dynamics) to support fleet quality trending and maintenance performance.

Work Environment

• Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (e.g., keyboarding, machine operation, driving, reaching).
• May occasionally exert physical effort involving lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds, stooping, reaching, carrying, and pushing.
• Exposed to physical occupational risks (e.g., cuts, bruises, machinery, heavy equipment).
• Exposed to physical environmental elements such as dirt, odors, noise, and weather extremes.
• Normal work settings include office, field, and maintenance facilities.
