Fleet Equipment Technician

Principal Duties

  • Perform minor repairs on gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Perform minor repair work and adjustments on automobiles, medium and heavy duty trucks, and all types of heavy equipment.
  • Maintain record of services performed and assist with writing shop repairs orders.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and state inspections on automobiles, medium and heavy-duty trucks, and heavy equipment including all types of fluid level checks and lubrication checks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D., one (1) year technical training in a field related to area of assignment, or one (1) year automotive/equipment repair experience; or, an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • State Inspector Certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Possess Class C Drivers license or State of Texas Class B CDL (CDL must be obtained within one (1) year of hire date).
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and automotive principles.
  • Ability to work after hours and weekends.

Special Requirements

  • Drug Screening: Due to the safety and/or security sensitive nature of this position, individuals shall be subject to pre-employment or pre-placement drug and/or controlled substance testing as outlined in City policy.
