Fleet Academy, Seasonal Maintenance Aide (NCS) - Department of General Services

About the role

As a community aide in the Fleet Management Division, you will have the unique opportunity to work alongside highly skilled Automotive Mechanics and Automotive Maintenance Workers. This hands-on experience will provide valuable training in vehicle safety inspections, installations, maintenance, and repairs on a variety of fleet vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Assist Automotive Mechanics with maintenance and repair work on fleet vehicles
• Perform vehicle safety checks under supervision
• Support in the installation of automotive components
• Learn and apply fundamental automotive repair techniques
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment

Requirements

Experience: One (1) year of experience in cleaning, custodial work. OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills

• Knowledge of the tools, materials, techniques and equipment of four of the five following areas: painting, carpentry, masonry, plumbing or electrical trades
• Knowledge of cleaning materials and methods
• Ability to perform minor painting and carpentry duties
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
• Ability to follow instructions
• Ability to read gauges and monitor furnace

Additional information

• Background Check: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening, and must be successfully completed.
• Probation: All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a 6-month mandatory probation.

Pay

Salary Range: $15.00 - $30.00 Hourly. Starting Pay: $30.00 Hourly. This is a non-civil service position.
