Fixed Term Instructor of Equine Studies

About the role

The position requires providing high-quality and engaging instruction in Equine Studies, teaching a full range of classes in training horses and equine evaluation. The priority is on excellent teaching, including online instruction, along with advising, assessment, service, student recruitment, curriculum development, articulation with high school and university faculty, and professional development activities.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, engaging instruction in Equine Studies
• Assist in the on-going development and assessment of curriculum
• Contribute to delivery of instruction using distance delivery methods
• Develop course syllabi for assigned courses and effective varied instruction techniques
• Evaluate student performance and achievement of course, program, and all-college student learning outcomes
• Recommend appropriate texts and teaching aids
• Assist with academic advising and other related activities
• Serve on College committees as requested, elected or assigned
• Contribute to program, division, and department meetings
• Maintain a high level of content knowledge and engage in ongoing professional development
• Collaborate with Equine Program Facilities Manager and other staff on use and maintenance of the Equine Barn and Arena
• Support the Equine Judging Program and other program-related student activities
• Protect the safety of program students, horses, and instructors
• Act as advisor for NWC Horseman's Club
• Organize and host FFA judging contest in conjunction with Ag Department

Requirements

• Teach a range of classes, including Tack Fit and Function, Training and Development of the Western Horse, Equine Evaluation, Training the Young Horse, Fundamentals of Teaching Riding, Equine Nutrition, and Horse Production
• Teaching load of at least 22.5 credits/year across the academic year (3/4 time position)
