Fitter

Full-time, non-exempt position located in Lancaster, California. Reports to the Production Manager and Shop Foreman.

About the Role

Fitters at McWhirter Steel are responsible for providing “layout” on all fabrications and building miscellaneous fabrications from raw material to completion.

Responsibilities

• Fabricating miscellaneous steel fabrications such as trash gates, roof access platforms, handrail, etc.
• Layout of structural fabrications
• Operating an overhead crane
• Operating a torch
• Stick welding
• Wire welding
• Reading fabrication drawings

Requirements

• Completion of at least 3 months of McWhirter Steel’s Fitter’s apprenticeship or at least 4 years of structural steel fitting experience
• Welding experience
• In-depth knowledge of reading and interpreting fabrication drawings
• In-depth knowledge of reading and interpreting erection drawings
• Experience fabricating miscellaneous steel such as handrail, roof access platforms, etc.
• AWS Certification (preferred)
