About the role
Part-time (20 hours per week) Fitness Center Manager position for a retirement community client in Leesburg, FL. The Manager combines specialized educational experience and training with independent judgment to oversee all aspects of the Fitness Center, including exercise program design, fitness testing, customer service, group exercise (land and water), and other departmental initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate the development of facility programs, initiatives, goals, and objectives; create and implement action plans to achieve stated goals and stimulate participation.
- Supervise Coverage Specialists and onsite contractors.
- Maintain a positive, service-oriented relationship with the client contact and establish ongoing rapport with members.
- Create and monitor the budget, ensuring expenses align with determined allocations.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail while managing competing demands.
- Oversee all aspects of Fitness Center membership, including evaluating health forms, establishing orientation protocols, tracking members, and conducting renewals.
- Assess the health status of members (from healthy to high-risk) to provide tailored exercise and wellness recommendations.
- Perform weekly, monthly, and annual reporting and documentation (e.g., monthly reports, injury reports).
- Manage the Quality Assurance program and maintain facility-specific quality standards.
- Supervise Group Fitness Instructors and adjust the group exercise schedule as needed.
- Teach group exercise classes onsite, ensuring activities meet participants' fitness levels while adhering to safety guidelines.
- Oversee preventive maintenance and repair of exercise equipment; ensure facility cleanliness.
- Communicate effectively with groups of customers or employees, both verbally and in writing.
- Maintain frequent communication with the Assistant Director regarding programming, management questions, and other topics.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic, ingenuity, customer care, and attention to detail.
- Familiarize yourself with and abide by the policies stated in the NIFS Employee Handbook.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field from a four-year college/university.
- Relevant job experience in fitness management or a related field.
- Ability to teach basic group fitness classes.
- Experience safely and accurately prescribing exercise for older adults using ACSM guidelines.
- ACSM Health/Fitness Specialist Certification preferred; other industry-related certifications (CPT, CSCS, etc.) acknowledged.
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification.
- Ability to pass a thorough background check and/or drug screen if required.
Schedule
20 hours per week, Monday–Friday.
