Role and Responsibilities

The Fitness Manager is responsible for overseeing fitness and providing onsite leadership for the Personal Trainers and Fitness Staff. This person actively promotes sales and purchases of personal training sessions as well as Small Group Training (SGT), thereby assisting Active Wellness with member satisfaction and retention.

The Fitness Manager meets the budgeted department goal on programming sales. The Fitness Manager is also responsible for all matters pertaining to equipment and safety on the fitness floor.

  • Meet monthly and yearly revenue goals through the development of fitness programming.
  • Track individual daily fitness professional goals and complete payroll for Fitness Team.
  • Match fitness professionals with new clients.
  • May deliver up to 10 hours of personal training sessions per week, at the discretion of the General Manager as long as other goals are being met.
  • Support and manage team members; interview, hire, train, and coach all staff to hit monthly and yearly goals.
  • Support the General Manager in creating yearly budgets.
  • Attend weekly department head meetings, individual meetings, company fitness meetings and required trainings.
  • Complete and follow up on facility work orders.
  • Conduct quarterly fitness staff meetings.
  • Conduct new employee and quarterly staff safety trainings.
  • Administer emergency care to members and guests in need of assistance.
  • Work as a TEAM with all other departments.

Qualifications

  • 2 yr. management experience in the fitness industry.
  • Communication skills, customer service oriented, bottom-line oriented, experience in selling personal training and leading a team.
  • Outlook, Excel and Microsoft programs.
  • 4 year college degree in fitness related field preferred.
  • Experience with and passionate about medical fitness, and collaboration between health care providers and fitness a plus.
  • Operational knowledge of resistance training equipment and proper form.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics.
  • Knowledge of appropriate exercises for specific muscle groups.
  • Knowledge of injury prevention and basic rehabilitation.
  • Knowledge of basic movement and posture assessments and body composition assessments.
  • Ability to take the responsibility for the health and safety of others.
  • Ability to stand for several hours in a same shift; ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Fitness club environment.
  • Must follow OSHA and Active Wellness safety standards.
