About the role
The Oahe Family YMCA is seeking a Fitness Director to lead its growing health and wellness programs. This is an exciting opportunity for a fitness professional passionate about helping others live healthier lives while building relationships and strengthening the community.
Responsibilities
- Lead Fitness. Build Community. Make an Impact.
- Administer, supervise, and grow the YMCA's fitness programs.
- Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate group fitness instructors and personal trainers.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and mission-driven team culture.
- Ensure staff maintain required certifications and professional standards.
- Coordinate and oversee approximately 50 group fitness classes each week.
- Develop and maintain instructor schedules and class coverage.
- Maintain safety standards and risk management procedures.
- Monitor program quality and member satisfaction.
- Evaluate fitness trends and introduce innovative programming opportunities.
- Manage and grow personal training services.
- Build positive relationships with YMCA members.
- Aid members in achieving wellness goals.
- Promote participation in fitness programs and healthy lifestyle initiatives.
- Address member concerns and provide excellent customer service.
- Oversee fitness center operations.
- Maintain equipment and track program participation.
- Collaborate with other YMCA departments to enhance member experiences.
- Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based chronic disease prevention programs.
Requirements
- Physical & Professional Requirements: Ability to perform routine physical activities, lift up to 50 pounds, communicate verbally and in writing, exercise sound judgment, manage multiple responsibilities, and model YMCA core values.
- Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Recreation, Sports Management, or related field, or equivalent experience preferred. Group fitness and/or personal training certification from a nationally recognized organization. Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications (or ability to obtain upon hire).
