Fitness Center Essentials Coach (Coney Island YMCA)

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand and lead the client through the Fitness Center Essentials program.
  • Provide outstanding service to all members and guests.
  • Act as a proactive agent by initiating a professional relationship with the members regarding their needs, concerns, and questions.
  • Accommodate the members’ needs/concerns.
  • Understand and promote all YMCA programs.
  • Contact members on a weekly basis to follow-up on the progression of their fitness program.
  • Answer members' questions, concerns, and complaints in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Provide members with opportunities that will increase their involvement, sense of belonging, and ownership of the YMCA.
  • Assist members in effectively utilizing fitness equipment.
  • Maintain required certifications, which are tracked in Club Connect.
  • Participate in training sessions and designated meetings.
  • Know and act according to branch emergency procedures.
  • Support community and promotional special events as needed.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is desirable.
  • The minimum age is 18 years old.
  • Experience working in a health and fitness environment is required.
  • A current adult CPR/First Aid certification is required.
  • An orientation to Healthy Living at the Y is desired.
  • Knowledge of Principles of Member Health & Wellness, Foundations of Listen First, and Foundations of Strength and Conditioning is desired.
  • A Fitness Center Essentials Training is desired.
  • An attendance at YMCA service training within ninety (90) days of hire is required.
  • Excellent customer service skills are required.
