Fitness and Wellness Coordinator
About The Job
This incumbent will develop and maintain a competitive Division II strength and conditioning program in a manner compatible with the department and University philosophy, and in compliance with NCAA, Conference and National accepted rules and regulations. They will instruct and teach student athletes in the fundamentals of technique and safety. Perform administrative responsibilities, including assisting in budget planning and management, scheduling of strength and condition interns/student workers and planning and executing maintenance and cleaning of all strength and condition equipment and areas. Establish and maintain effective relationships within the athletic department, the University, community, and the general public. Represent in a positive fashion the University and its athletic programs in private and public forums. Commit to adhering to all rules and regulations.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Deliver strength and condition services to all Division II athletes in a manner compatible with the department and University philosophy, and in compliance with NCAA, Conference and National recognized rules and regulations
- Design and daily administrate strength, stretching, agility/plyometric, speed development and condition exercises and programming
- Provide instruction in a safe and effective manner at all times
- Manage and maintain, inventory, infrastructure and the department's budget
- Communicate regularly with all head coaches
- Support the UMD Athletics mission of excellence in the Classroom, Community and Competition; while furthering the strategic plan of UMD
- Contribute to the University wide Goal #2 initiative: Create a positive and inclusive campus climate for all by advancing equity, diversity and social justice
Qualifications
- Required qualifications: BA/BS degree in an exercise science, kinesiology, health or related field from a regionally accredited university
- Experience managing an athletics budget
- Preferred Qualifications: CSCS certification, 2 or more years combined progressive experience at the collegiate and/or professional level, MA/MS degree from a regionally accredited University
- Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
- Commitment to athletic excellence in an academic environment
- Experience as a student athlete
- Demonstrated ability to communicate both written and verbally
- Experience in working with diverse populations
