FIT NYC Adjunct Faculty Pool- Textile/Surface Design, Complex Weaving for Textile Design
About the role
The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology, of the State University of New York, invites applications for a part-time adjunct faculty position in the Textile/Surface Design Department, School of Art and Design.
Responsibilities
- Deliver relevant course material for TD 334 Complex Dobby Wovens.
- Audit and assess student performance.
- Provide guidance and assistance to students both in and out of the classroom.
- Submit grades on time.
Requirements
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Expertise in multi-harness, advanced level drafting.
- Experience using 16-24 harness hand looms (AVL compu-dobby preferred).
- Experience using industry standard software such as Pointcarre or Nedgraphics for dobby.
- Experience with technical packs for developing woven fabrics.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong skills in layouts, repeats, color.
- Ability to analyze and research current market color and concept trends.
- Experience designing wovens for the fashion or home industry.
- Robust fiber arts practice using complex weaving.

- This is a part-time position, adjunct teaching position beginning in Spring 2026.

Compensation
$89.98 per hour based on minimum qualifications. The final rate, step and appointment rank are determined by a candidate's ability to demonstrate that they meet the respective school's additional criteria for hiring "above the first step," in accordance with the CBA Adjunct Salary Schedules (pp 88-89) .

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The working conditions for this position will be any combination of the classroom, lab, and/or office space. Certain roles may be required to handle machinery and chemicals. The physical requirement for this position will require occasional sitting, constant standing, occasional bending, frequent walking, and occasionally lifting 10 lbs. or less.
