About the role
The Whitehall Fish Facility (ABEL/Fish Lab) is looking to hire a technician to assist with fish culture maintenance and research.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the maintenance of demonstration cultures of fishes (e.g., cleaning tanks, feeding fish, monitoring water quality, etc.)
- Aid in equipment maintenance and laboratory organization
- Aid in maintaining records of animal care
- Assist with the care and maintenance of research animals (e.g., cleaning tanks, feeding fish, monitoring water quality, etc.)
- Aid graduate students with data collection in the field and in the lab (e.g., electrofishing, gill netting, mussel surveys, etc.)
- Aid graduate students and PIs with equipment maintenance
- Assist with specimen preparation and analysis
- Aid with data entry and management
Requirements
- Knowledge and experience with aquatic animal husbandry
- Familiarity with trailering and operating small boats
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Familiarity with laboratory/chemical safety protocols
- Lift up to 40 lbs.
- Work long hours on feet in adverse conditions
- Occasional overnight trips and weekend work
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
Skills
- Knowledge and experience with aquatic animal husbandry
- Familiarity with trailering and operating small boats
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Familiarity with laboratory/chemical safety protocols
