About the Role

Join the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR) in a role that supports the conservation of the Commonwealth’s fish and wildlife resources. This position provides critical support to the Program Coordinator and biologists in the Streams Investigations Branch, assisting with fish population sampling, equipment maintenance, and data compilation to inform management recommendations for Kentucky’s streams and rivers.

Responsibilities

• Assist biologist(s) with field data collections using standardized fisheries methods and appropriate gear types.
• Operate and maintain project equipment, including boats, trailers, vehicles, trap nets, hoop nets, gill nets, trot lines, and other sampling equipment, and prepare for field use.
• Assist in the design and fabrication of equipment as needed.
• Perform data entry and compile results.
• Assist other fisheries staff with population studies, habitat improvement work, fish harvest, and fish transport.
• Initiate purchases as directed, following state and agency policies and procedures.
• Assist in maintaining project inventories.
• Interact professionally with the public.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school graduate.
• One year of fishery, wildlife, or habitat management/development experience.
• Additional related training may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Experience in fisheries, wildlife, or habitat management/development may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license prior to appointment and maintain it for the length of employment.

Working Conditions

Travel, exposure to extreme weather conditions, heavy equipment, and wildlife may pose hazards. Occasional overtime required.

Pay

Annual salary range: $29,513.28 - $44,270.88 (Pay Grade 10).

Schedule

37.5 hours per week. Initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months.
