Fish and Wildlife Technician II

About the Role

Join the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR) as a Fish and Wildlife Technician II. This role offers a dynamic work environment focused on conserving the Commonwealth’s fish and wildlife resources while providing opportunities for outdoor recreation such as fishing, hunting, boating, and wildlife watching.

Responsibilities

• Collects fisheries data for annual monitoring and research activities.
• Handles and samples fish using various equipment; trailers, launches, and drives boats.
• Maintains project equipment, including boats, trailers, vehicles, fish sampling gear, aerators, small motors, and other tools.
• Keeps equipment clean, repaired, and ready for use.
• Builds and maintains fish habitat and attractors for district waterbodies; purchases materials.
• Lifts heavy objects and operates power tools and chainsaws.
• Maintains department-owned facilities, public boat ramps, courtesy docks, and regulation signs.
• Performs grounds maintenance: mowing, spraying herbicide, placing rocks on jetties, and trash pickup.
• Maintains equipment inventory lists, processes purchase receipts, and keeps up-to-date maintenance records.
• Completes accurate daily and monthly activity reports and submits required forms.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of experience in fishery, wildlife, or habitat management/development.
• Additional related training may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Experience in fisheries, wildlife, or habitat management/development may substitute for required education on a year-for-year basis.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license prior to appointment and maintain it for the duration of employment.

Working Conditions

Travel, exposure to extreme weather conditions, heavy equipment, and wildlife may pose hazards. This role involves outdoor work in varied environments.

Pay

Salary range: $29,513.28 - $44,270.88 annually.

Schedule

37.5 hours per week. Probationary period of 6 months.
