Fish and Wildlife Technician 1 (2 Positions)

About the role

This posting is for two seasonal Fish & Wildlife Technician 1 positions. The individuals in these positions will perform duties under supervision, supporting state wildlife programs and land management activities.

Responsibilities

• Issue daily and seasonal permits to hunters accessing state-managed lands.
• Take telephone reservations during small game and archery seasons.
• Respond to public requests for information on hunting and wildlife programs.
• Stock pheasants 1-3 nights per week and care for birds daily.
• Collect biological data on harvested deer and issue bonus deer management permits.
• Take Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) samples.
• Record and summarize hunter use figures.
• Post boundaries on state-managed lands.
• Perform land management activities, including stocking route maintenance, grassland management, and facility maintenance.
• Assist with regional wildlife programs, including monitoring and managing endangered species, non-game species, game species, and nuisance wildlife.

Requirements

• 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine, or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
• Valid driver’s license or ability to meet the transportation needs of the position (state vehicle provided).
• Ability to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas or adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness to work early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Flexibility for travel, overtime, and overnight assignments.

Schedule

This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of February 28, 2027. The actual work schedule, duties, and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview. Program needs and funding will determine the actual termination date.
