Fiscal Support Specialist
About the role
Northwest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) seeks a Fiscal Support Specialist to serve students, staff, parents, and community members through the Treasury Services office. This role involves answering questions related to student accounts, financial aid, veterans' benefits, admissions, registration, and other student service areas.
Responsibilities
- Provide front-line Treasury Services support to students, staff, parents, and community members through in-person, phone, and email communication.
- Assess student needs, discuss financial planning options, and assist with establishing payment plans to support student success and account resolution.
- Balance daily cashiering sessions and prepare deposits in accordance with college procedures.
- Research, resolve, and appropriately redirect student inquiries, disputes, and difficult customer concerns while maintaining professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and a high standard of customer service.
- Administer assigned Treasury Services processes, including emergency loan tracking, returned check processing, account balance write-offs, scholarship return check requests, and related documentation.
- Support collection efforts for past-due student accounts by contacting students, maintaining account documentation, and processing State Set-Off receipts and other payments accurately and timely.
- Perform complex cashiering and refunding functions for student accounts and other college areas in compliance with college policies, FERPA requirements, and applicable Title IV cash management regulations.
- Maintain current cashiering procedures, provide appropriate referrals and supporting documentation, and collaborate with college departments to ensure accurate, consistent service delivery.
- Participate in required training, staff meetings, and professional development activities; maintain regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance.
Requirements
- The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.
- Two years of experience in student financial accounts, banking, or related area.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of college, local, state, and federal regulations related to billing, payment processing, refunds, confidentiality, and student services.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and research skills, with the ability to use available resources to resolve questions and escalate issues appropriately.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing, with a diverse customer base in a welcoming, service-oriented manner.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Ability to balance cashiering sessions, maintain accurate records, and perform detailed financial and data entry tasks.
- Ability to de-escalate concerns, resolve complaints, and explain policies, procedures, and technical information in plain language.
- Skill in using student information systems, spreadsheets, word processing, email, and other standard computer applications.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while demonstrating initiative, flexibility, and sound judgment.
- Knowledge of basic mathematics, data analysis, and reporting methods sufficient to prepare, review, and present information accurately.

Pay
